The Garage Sale Trail event involves people getting together and hosting a yard sale for their unwanted items.

This is the event’s third year running – and so far, it has redistributed one million items, saving them from landfill. Not only this, but it has helped to raise $3 million in local fundraising and has mobilised 800,000 people to meet others in their neighbourhood at the garage sales events.

On Saturday, this year’s Garage Sale Trail will take place and communities around Australia will get together and host the sales.

This has a number of benefits. Firstly, it encourages sustainability as people can make use of goods that otherwise would have been sent straight to landfill.

It also fosters new community connections, as more people will interact and socialise with their neighbours.
