Celebrities Embrace Reusable Bags

If you like to take cues from the A-list, you’ll love knowing that Hollywood stars embrace the green trend of using reusable bags.

Paparazzi caught House Bunny and Scary Movie film star Anna Faris in the environmentally friendly act recently as she got her grocery shopping done using several reusable produce bags, as reported by the Daily Mail and other newspapers.

Faris was spotted a few months after a new Los Angeles (LA) law was passed in August 2013, which bans use of all disposable plastic bags and charges users for paper bags.

The law comes in an attempt to discourage LA consumers from using plastic bags, which are known to be extremely harmful to the environment.

In Australia alone, up to 50 million plastic bags enter the litter stream each year, according to Clean Up Australia. These take up to 1,000 years to break down, and in the process, release dangerous greenhouse gases.

In addition, animals can mistake products made from plastic for food, with the item often becoming lodged in the animal’s body, causing suffocation and death.

Reusable bags are a smart and eco friendly choice with a double environmental bonus. Not only are they made from recycled materials, they prevent more plastics from entering Australia’s landfill and ocean.

If you’re worried about convenience or effectiveness, there’s no need – green bags can be kept in the car to use on any supermarket run, and are made to be strong and durable.

Faris isn’t the only celebrity who realises how important it is to use green bags. Stars such as Jessica Biel and Rachel Bilson have also been spotted toting their own environmentally friendly bags.
