Eco Friendly Role Model: Leonardo DiCaprio

Whether you know him for his role as Jack Dawson, or as the Wolf on Wall Street, Leonardo DiCaprio ia an A-grade celeb and a great role model for anyone wanting to become more green.

Leonardo DiCaprio has long since touted the advantages of eco-friendly products and sustainable practices.

He was one of the first celebrities to jump on board the green car movement, and recently announced he was investing in an eco-friendly racing team that uses only electric-run cars.

Formula E is the latest round of the FIA Championship and features cars that can drive at high speeds, in excess of 225 kmh.

“The future of our planet depends on our ability to embrace fuel-efficient, clean-energy vehicles,” Leo said in a December 9 press release.

Cars are not the only area Leo has invested in. He created the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation which gave a $3 million grant to the World Wildlife Fund to go towards increasing tiger populations by 2022.

Not only that, but this star has partnered with the Christie Foundation to create a documentary ‘the 11th hour’ about environmental issues such as climate change and endangered species.

Leo has also created his own coffee line – Lyon coffee – which is made sustainably. All the profits of this line will support environmental charities that are backed by the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.

While this coffee is not available in Australia, look out for sustainable and fair trade coffee brands and of course, make sure you are filling up your reusable coffee cup rather than sending excess waste to landfill.

Take a leaf out of Leo’s book and aim to fit more sustainable products into your day-to-day life. Why not purchase some reusable shopping bags or stainless steel drink bottles? These goods will prevent you sending waste to landfill and are an easy change to make.
