Why is Stainless Steel the Best Option?

Drinking plenty of water is essential for life – every process in the human body requires water to enable the basic chemical reactions to take place.

So whether fluids are in a natural or man made environment, they are active substances that readily leach materials to and from their surroundings.

Food Grade 304 Stainless Steel, Will Simply not Leach Substances to or from Your Drink.

Traditional materials for portable bottles are Plastic and Aluminum.

Food safe Plastics by nature are soft materials (recycling codes #1 PET, #2 HDPE, #4 LDPE and #5 PP) Therefore to make a durable drinking bottle Polycarbonate (#7 PC) is used as it is considered virtually shatterproof. What particularly makes PC so strong is a plasticiser commonly called BPA which also makes it easy to mould. An environmental estrogen, also known as an endocrine disrupter is a growing world wide concern. Studies have linked low-dose BPA exposure with such effects as: permanent changes to genital tract; increase prostate weight; decline in testosterone; breast cells predisposed to cancer; prostate cells more sensitive to hormones and cancer; and hyperactivity.

Who Is Exposed to BPA?

Everyone. Bisphenol A is found in many everyday products including food cans, plastic water containers and baby bottles. A study in the US found that 95% of people tested had been exposed to BPA.

Soft plastic bottles certified as food safe often have a chemical taste to them and get tainted from drinks over time. Single use PET bottles are not designed for re-use -they harbour bacteria.

What About Aluminium?

For more than 90 years, the link between Alzheimers Disease and Aluminium has been pondered, researched and discussed. Whilst the link is neither confirmed nor discounted, the 90 year debate goes on.

In our non-medical opinion – what we DO know is:

Aluminium is a neurotoxin. Exercising a caution in its intake appears prudent.

Aluminum bottles are lined with either plastic (a BPA risk) or ceramic material. In order to keep this lining from perishing, only water can be used in an aluminum bottle. Acidic liquids such as fruit juice will perish a lining and make the Aluminium more bioavailable. It is also important to know the ph of the water entering your bottle. (During our market research, we met a lady who filled her aluminum bottle with water from the same water that we drink in our city that perished her lining leaving it flapping around in the bottom of her bottle )

Most aluminum bottles have a small mouth piece so diligently inspecting a lining is nearly impossible. Aluminum is also one of the soft metals so your bottle is likely to get dented very easily over time. A dented bottle is very likely to damage a ceramic lining. Anyone familiar with drinking from a lined bottle will know they do not always keep water fresh, they can leach or retain flavors.
