Go Green For Spring

Finally, flowers are blossoming and the air is a little warmer. It’s spring time, which means it’s a great time to go green by examining your habits and prepare for the summer ahead.

Make this season a sustainable one. You can reduce your waste and only use the energy and water that you need. This will help the earth stay healthy and make sure that it sticks around for generations to come.

Keep it fresh – clean out your fridge

This is your chance to give your fridge a big clean out. Let it defrost and then set it to between 3 and 4 degrees. Freezers should be between minus 15-18 degrees. Any cooler than this and you’ll be wasting energy. Make sure that the vents in your freezer aren’t blocked up with any items that can block the flow and force it to work harder.

Get outside

Now that the weather’s warmer and balmy breezes are starting to set in, it’s the perfect time to stop using your dryer and instead hang your garments out on a washing line or a clothing horse.

Wash your clothes on a cold water setting or ‘eco’ setting if your machine has one. This can save up to 80-90 per cent more energy compared to hot water washes.

Watch your water

Fortunately, during the hot summer you aren’t likely to want long, hot showers. Have a lukewarm shower instead and even bring your thermostat down a couple of degrees. You might want to set a timer for your showers so they don’t drag on for so long, or use a low-flow showerhead. This is an eco friendly products specifically designed to conserve water.

Try these steps and then wait for your month’s energy bill – hopefully, it will have been reduced along with your overall electricity usage!
