Australia Christmas

Keeping Australia Clean This Christmas

Summer is arguably one of the best times of year in Australia, when loved ones come together for Christmas and the New Year and enjoy the great weather.

It’s the time to savour delicious food and great company, with many Aussies heading to the beach for barbeques and a bit of relaxation.

It’s important during this season however that you make sure you remain conscious of your environmental impact.

Here are some ways to make sure you stay eco friendly during the Christmas season in Australia.

Eco friendly tips for the summer break

–          If you head to the beach, make sure you don’t leave anything behind. Take any rubbish home with you or use the bins provided.

–          Pack picnics in an eco friendly way. Don’t use disposable cutlery or plastic wrap. Instead, take your own knives and forks along – it will only take a minute to wash up at the end of the day and will save items from needlessly heading to landfill.

–          Pack sandwiches in reusable sandwich wrap rather than disposable plastic, and use stainless steel drink bottles for your beverages. There’s no need to buy bottled water when you can bring your own. Easy!

–          Be mindful of your portions as you cook. While it’s easy to overindulge and prepare massive amounts of tasty treats for Christmas, you don’t want to end up throwing excess food away. Make just enough for everybody and remember that you can always freeze leftovers or use them in the following days rather than throw them out.

–          Make sure you reuse and recycle anything you can over the season. Could any ribbon or wrapping paper you’ve received from gifts have a second life? Think twice before throwing something out as it’s likely got another use for it. If not, always recycle.
