Our Favourite Healthy Herbs

Looking for some healthy herbs to spice up that produce you’re filling your eco friendly bags with?

There’s nothing like a few healthy herbs and spices to mix things up, so hear our some of our nutritious favourites to try.

If you’re feeling extra virtuous, you might even want to attempt growing some at home!

Garlic

Not only is garlic a tasty addition to many meals, it comes with plenty of health benefits to boot.

According to the The George Mateljan Foundation, garlic has anti-inflammatory properties that can aid cardiovascular health, and may help to ward off bacteria, viruses and even cancer. That sounds pretty good to us!

You can add garlic to almost any meal, from in sauces to soups, pasta, roasts, bread and more.

Sage

Sage has a tasty flavour and can also add a great health boost to your food, so look for the grey-green coloured leaves at your local supermarket or produce shop.

Like garlic, sage has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits and might even improve your own ‘sageness’ by encouraging better brain function! The George Mateljan Foundation says this wonder herb can work to enhance memory.

Sage goes particularly well with tomato and cheese, so can be used in many different dishes.

Thyme

Want a herb that will add a tasty kick to anything from chowder, soup and stuffing to butter, cheese and mustard? Then get your hands on some thyme.

This fragrant herb is packed with antioxidants, and may work to protect cell membranes and work against bacteria and fungi.

Thyme is also packed with vitamin C and A, plus iron, copper, manganese and dietary fibre – so you get a wide range of nutrients when you consume it.

Next time you cook a meal, try to include one of these fantastic herbs – or head to your local store to pick up some up to plant!
