Put Your Green Thumbs To Good Use

There’s more than one way of making your home more energy efficient and eco friendly. Usually, we tend to think about what’s inside the house – the appliances, light bulbs, electricity and hot water, and it’s not always often that we step and think outside the box.

Your garden is one significant area where your green thumbs can be used to make an eco friendly paradise for the plant, bird and animal life around it.

Using organic materials in the garden can be a great way to keep things natural and sustainable, and often it garners great results in the growing stakes. You can purchase gardening items with minimal and recyclable packaging as well as natural ingredients.

Instead of using chemical fertilisers, it’s easy and fun for the whole family to create a compost heap. These can be made out of food scraps such as peels and skins, and is nature’s ideal fertiliser, saving you from having to fork out for other kinds. If you don’t have the room for your own compost heap, there are still organic fertilisers you can buy on the market.

It’s a good idea to keep a bucket or two out in the garden to collect water when it rains – especially if you’re in a particularly dry part of the country. You can then use this to water your plants instead of having to drag out the hose from the main water supply.

If you’re up for it, try to choose eco friendly products such as manual lawnmowers. Think of it this way – you’ll be getting exercise to keep you fit and healthy while also helping the environment!

You can even get solar powered or energy efficient lights for the outdoors so that you can illuminate your beautiful garden creation at little to no cost for you or the environment.
