Shopping For Used And Recycled Items

There are plenty of roads you can take to begin living a waste-free life. It all begins with wanting to make a change, and the great thing about this is that these changes will have a positive impact on your bank balance and the health of the Earth.

Take some of these tips on board and you’ll be well on your way towards living a more sustainable life.

Buy reusable products

First of all, wherever you can, eliminate your reliance on single-use plastic items such as bags and plastic wrap and replace them with alternatives such as reusable sandwich wraps and reusable shopping bags. This way, you’ll save money as there will be no need to keep buying replacements and there will be less waste headed to landfill.

Buy recycled and reused products

Once you know where to look, it’s not all too hard to buy used items or products made out of recycled materials.

Look up some local second-hand stores. These days there is such variety, and you can find things like clothing, books, gifts, furniture, electronics and more.

Check out charity stores, online auction and trading websites, trash and treasure markets and recycling centres.

For goods made out of recycled items, check out a product’s labelling. This will indicate whether it’s made out of recycled materials or not.

There are many paper products containing recycled content in particular, such as hand towels, toilet paper and office printing, so this is one easy area where you can make the change.

The more lightweight paper the better, and check that any original tree material that it uses is sourced from sustainably managed forests.

Spread the word and see if you can encourage family and friends to pick up these habits too.
