Tips For Living Plastic Free

Throughout the month of Plastic Free July – where people all over the world have been giving up single-use plastic in favour of living plastic free with eco friendly alternatives – some pretty creative ideas have sprung forth.

There’s still some time left in July, and it would be great if everyone could take these new behaviours beyond this month and make them a part of their day to day lifestyle.

So, in honour of maintaining a plastic-free lifestyle, here are some tips you can incorporate into your life.

Replace single-use plastics

Replace single-use plastic items such as bags with reusable shopping bags, and carry one folded up in your handbag wherever you go so you’re never caught short when you need one.
Eliminate your plastic use in the kitchen and substitute ordinary sandwich wrap for the reusable and washable kind.

Avoid plastic packaging

You can do this by getting whatever food you can from bulk bins, as then you can place the items into your reusable produce bags.

Furthermore, when you need to buy something that must come in packaging, choose to buy brands that have gone with the minimal approach, are made from recycled materials or have a good recycling policy.

Carry reusable items with you

If you’re a coffee addict, carry a reusable coffee cup with you wherever you go. You can even get eco friendly glass straws, which can be used time and time again, and you can carry your own utensils to avoid the need for any plastic takeaway ones when you are out and about.

Many of these measures will not only help to save the planet, but will help you to save money too – and it’s never too late to start living plastic free.
