Onya™ Products Are Responsibly Made in China
Over the past 40 years or so many countries have moved much of their manufacturing to overseas markets in order to be more competitive on the world stage. One of the main drivers of this action has been due to the high cost of employment in OECD* member countries.
This has paved the way for emerging economies such as those of India, Vietnam, Taiwan and China to fill the gaps for products that are not economically viable for OECD nations to produce.
With these emerging economies comes some bad operators, but conversely also some great ones.
In a world where unintended consequences of certain actions can have devastating effects, it is incredibly important to us that we are meeting not only the high standards of production and operations we set for ourselves, but also exceeding the expectations of our customers when it comes to ethical business practices.
As mentioned above, we are very proudly B-Corp Certified; certifying as a B Corporation goes beyond product- or service-level certification. B Corp Certification is the only certification that measures a company’s entire social and environmental performance. The B Impact Assessment evaluates how our company’s operations and business model impact our workers, community, environment, and customers. From our supply chain and input materials to our charitable giving and employee benefits, B Corp Certification proves our business is meeting the highest standards of verified performance.
While “Fair Trade” certification doesn’t really apply to the products we produce, we do ensure that all our manufacturers pass all internationally approved standards in both social and environmental audits. The international standards for the environmental audits are ISO 14001 and for social responsibility it is SA8000.
ISO 14001 specifies the requirements for an environmental management system that an organization can use to enhance its environmental performance.
SA8000 is an international certification standard that encourages organizations to develop, maintain and apply socially acceptable practices in the workplace and deals with issues such as worker conditions and pay.
We update our audits on a regular basis to ensure that our manufacturing partners are in compliance and if possible even improving upon their last audit.
As we are one of the oldest reusable bag and bottle companies in Australia, we have over a long period of time, cultivated partnerships with overseas businesses who uphold our ethics on sustainability & ethical treatment of their staff.
Onya™ visits with each of our suppliers regularly throughout the year to ensure that our responsibly made principles are being upheld.
