Looking After Local Wildlife

In Australia we are lucky enough to have a huge range of beautiful creatures surrounding us as our local wildlife.

Adorable animals like wombats and koalas, amazing birdlife including the galah and emu, and unique marine species such as the platypus all make our country stand out from the crowd and remind us how lucky we are to live in such a stunning environment.

So how can you make sure you are looking after the local wildlife we share the natural landscape with?

Protecting Australia’s animals

One of the most important things you can do is make sure you are keeping the environment clean and green. That means never leaving any rubbish behind and making sure you are reusing items as much as possible, or recycling them if there is really no other use for them.

This can be made much easier by purchasing eco friendly products such as reusable bags and coffee cups that can be used time and time again.

Items like this eliminate the need for single-use plastics, which are one of the major culprits of litter found in the street and in the ocean.

These kinds of items can harm creatures if they get caught in them or eat them, something we all agree we don’t want to happen. So, encourage the use of these reusable products in the home, school and workplace and never leave any items behind in public areas – always take them home with you or use the receptacles provided.

It’s also a good idea to avoid feeding birds and animal life that aren’t your own domestic pets. This is like feeding them ‘junk food’ and can make them really sick. It can also change their behavioural patterns and create a cycle where these creatures rely on human food.

Remember this information and make sure you take care of the local environment around you so our furry friends – and other magnificent creatures – are here to stay.
