Make Your Next Overseas Travel Trip Clean and Green

Travelling is considered a rite of passage for most Australians, and plenty of us will travel to an overseas destination at least once in our lifetime. However, if you think about it in depth, travelling is not always the most green and eco friendly activity.

The Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental plane can carry up to 238,604 litres of fuel in order to complete long distance trips according to the official Boeing website – that’s a lot of fuel being burned through! Aside from this, there are plenty of other aspects of travel that are not so green for our environment.

However, this doesn’t mean you should miss out on your OE – there are plenty of other ways you can make your overseas holiday a little more green!

In fact, travel insurance company Travel Insured International has plenty of suggestions to help out. There’s even a way you can help reduce the amount of fuel your particular plane churns through on the trip – just by packing light!

Before you leave, Travel Insured International recommends setting your home to “vacation mode” by turning off all your electrical appliances or putting them on a timer if necessary. This way, you won’t be using up unnecessary power while you’re not even at home – plus, you’ll save money on your power bill.

In addition to this, you may also like to do your research in terms of where you would like to stay. Some hotels and lodgings make an effort to be environmentally friendly in their practices, so pick a hotel that’s aware of its impact on the environment.

There are also green travel actions you can take once you’re at your destination. Although you probably already do this at home, ensure you limit the amount of waste you produce, and recycle or reuse items wherever possible.

You can also choose eco friendly transport options – exploring the area on foot or by bike is often the best way to see the attractions anyway!

In addition, remember to pack your eco friendly products such as reusable bags and backpacks for the journey – they will always come in handy.
